And as I walked back from Trafalgar square, my eye caught a few lines inscribed below a statue which said: “Patriotism is not enough. I must have no bitterness nor hatred for anyone”. And then I thought of Raj Thackeray and all the warmth in my heart disappeared instantly.

- what a brilliant punch line.

Wonderful thought - “Patriotism is not enough. I must have no bitterness nor hatred for anyone”.

Watching Jodha Akbar right now..hehe....strange coincidence...hehe...never thought I would be writing about in some blog like this in the middle of the movie..hehe....

But I must say your words are true in complete sense..this movie should not be called a period movie only. This is a love story. A tale of two hearts who met because of reasons that were born in the complexities of social human insecurity but got united because of reasons that were born in the hearts of two totally different but in some ways similar characters.

Jodha Akbar is the romance of man filled with courage and a woman filled with dignity.

Hats off!! Ashutosh Gowariker that he created such a beautiful piece of art with his exceptional imagination.

Saw Jodhaa ... on the day before yesterday. I quite agree with your review - but there were times when i felt that Hritik could have been more ?regal. Ash was regal with a capital R, but Hritik tended to come across as a young boy - perhaps it was the voice, I don't know.

As usual, fantastic work Anshu ... as far as your writing is concerned. About movie, I don't know as I have not seen it. I agree with Mr. Shah, you should start freelancing for a newspaper.

Anshu, you write so well. Have you considered freelancing for a newspaper?

Your review makes me want to see Jodha Akbar today (which unfortunately is not an option).

Your comments on Raj Thackeray, though correct, should have been left out of a film review. Discuss that later in a separate article.

BTW, I didn't know that punctuality paid! I reached the cinema at 10.50 am for a 11.15 show. Turned out that I was the first one to arrive, and got an 'early bird' ticket at almost half price!

Manish, there is a difference between logic and historical inaccuracies. At no point does lack of logic assault your senses in the movie. The only historical 'inaccuracy' which is in the news is the confusion regarding her name. Gowariker makes it clear that there are documents with at least four different names around. And irrespective of what she was called, yes, Akbar did marry a Rajput princess. And yes, the alliance was not smooth as the people didn't accept it easily.

I don't think at any point the film pretends to be anything other than fiction. The backdrop is historical, the events and people are. But I doubt if any historical paper documents what went on in the Emperor's private chambers!

Enjoy the film. It has subtle lessons which are important in this era where people lose their sanity with each venomous speech a mad man makes.
